Safe Home Remedies for Cold & Cough in Babies


1. Garlic & Ajwain Pouch :

  • Take a Spoon of Ajwain and 2 Garlic cloves.
  • Dry roast them. 
  • Keep aside to Cool
  • Transfer them into a clean and thin cloth and tie it tight to make a pouch.
  • Place this pouch near the baby’s cot.
  • The smell and aroma from this pouch will provide comfort to the baby. This pouch should help clear any nasal blockage due to cold  .
  • Garlic & Ajwain contain anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties. This mixture is one of the best herbal home remedies for cold in children & babies.

  • Precaution: Do not keep the pouch too close to the baby.

For immediate results, you can also rub this pouch to the sole of baby's feet. 


2. Mustard Oil infused with Rock salt 
  • Take some mustard oil and warm it.( not too hot).
  • Mix a spoon of rock salt to it.
  • Massage this oil gently over the baby's chest and back.
  • Cover the chest and back with clothes to provide warmth. 

Precautions: Make sure to check the oil . It should not be too hot. It should be just warm .


3. Turmeric pack:
  • Take good quality turmeric powder or turmeric sticks(powder them).
  • Mix with little warm water and make it like a medium size ball. 
  • Put this turmeric wet ball on the scalp of the baby and press it, so that it sticks like a patch. 
  • the anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties in turmeric help to heal and cure the baby's cold very fast.
Precautions: Please check if the baby is allergic to turmeric, before trying this remedy. 


4. Coconut, tulsi & camphor massage oil.
  • Take Coconut oil, camphor, and a few cleaned tulsi leaves.
  • Add these tulsi leaves to the coconut oil.
  • Warm the coconut oil. 
  • Now, add the Camphor also.
  • Let the tulsi leaves and camphor infuse in oil.
  • Leave it to cool.
  • Massage this oil gently on the baby's chest and back.
  • You can also rub this oil to your palm and let the baby smell it lightly. 
.5. Steam Bath: 

      Give a light steam bath .
  • Fill your bathroom with steam by running the hot water tap. 
  •  Sit in that steam holding your baby for some time.
 Alternatively, you can dip a towel in warm water, squeeze it completely and roll the warm towel over the baby's nose,chest, back, feet and palms. 


Precautions: The water should be warm, not hot.
